Abstract
A detailed discussion of the data of Part I
is here presented. The departures of surface-wave arrivals from station-to-epicenter great-circle paths, when interpreted on the basis of the theory of ray paths on a spherical shell, are shown to be consistent with the known differences between Pacific and continental structure. It is also shown that the apparent transverse motion in Rayleigh Waves recorded at Berkeley is due to the fact that the arrivals are from other than the station-to-epicenter great-circle path. Thus, the observed motions are consistent with the simple isotropic theory. Experimental phase and group velocity curves for Rayleigh Waves, derived from the observed data, are included. They should apply to the layering in the tripartite area.
