Analytical expressions for transients in seismometer-galvanometer systems

FREDERICK E. ROMBERG

TEXAS INSTRUMENTS, INC., DALLAS, TEXAS

Abstract

Laplace transforms are a convenient method of obtaining analytical solutions for the motion of seismographs. The motions resulting from various kinds of forced vibrations are readily found, and their frequency content easily deduced because of their explicit form and without the need for computers. Examples in illustration are shown for the simple oscillator and for the seismometer-galvanometer combination with different periods. The existence of a unique critical condition, and the distorting oscillations resulting from deviations from it, are demonstrated.
