Crustal morphology and plate tectonics in south central Alaska

Abstract

The geometry of the crust-mantle interface has been determined for south central Alaska using earthquake records from two permanent telemetry networks and temporary stations. A mountain root is found under the Alaska Range. Moho depths and a steeply dipping focal plane suggest that the Aleutian Arc subduction zone continues through Cook Inlet and the Susitna lowlands to the Alaska Range and terminates in a continental setting.
