Abstract
A five-station sonobuoy array was deployed in the ocean near the epicenter of the February 21, 1973 Pt. Mugu earthquake to supplement California Institute of Technology land stations for aftershock hypocenter locations. The sonobuoy data tend to force epicenters north, compared with locations from land stations alone. The study illustrates the value of sonobuoys for epicenter locations in or near the oceans.
