Data Files on the Chi-Chi Earthquake from the Central Mountain Strong-Motion Array

    Introduction
 
The Central Mountain strong-motion array is operated by the Institute of Earth Science, Academia Sinica. The Central Mountain ranges are the high mountainous region of Taiwan, with peaks up to 4000 m. There are only a few roads, and access is difficult in general. We installed these stations for the following reasons:

  1. To understand the attenuation effect of ground motion across the Central Mountain ranges to compare it with records obtained by the CWB stations that are almost entirely in the plain areas where people live.
  2. To study topographic effects of ground motions in mountainous area.
